MILLIONROSES is a creative collaboration between designer Choi Hyung-moon and photographer Kim Joo-young.

Choi Hyung-moon(1981) is a designer who lives and works in Seoul. Before setting up his studio he worked as a home appliance and lighting designer at LG Electronics. He then received his master’s degree in product design at ECAL / University of Arts and Design Lausanne, Switzerland. He partnered up with a photographer Kim Joo-Young for MILIONROSES and is a full-time professor at Daegu University.

Kim Joo-young (1989) is a photographer who lives and works in Seoul. She studied fine arts at Dongkuk University followed by her first solo exhibition at ONE&J+1 Gallery with the photography series 'Chewing gum variations' in 2017. She is an independent architectural photographer and a co-founder of MILIONROSES.

In 2013 the duo with distinct backgrounds met in Iceland where they traveled with different purposes. In 2016 they won the Interieur awards (Biennale Interieur in Belgium) together, and in the spring of following year they founded MILIONROSES.

“MILIONROSES started where design and photography meet. Their work is based on experience and knowledge gained from each area of expertise, the process of embracing a new context created from the intersection of the two and the result of melting it down to objects they create.”  

밀리언로지즈는 디자이너 최형문과 사진가 김주영의  Creative collaboration을 의미한다.

최형문(1981)은 디자이너이다. 중앙대학교에서 산업디자인을 전공했고, LG전자의 디자이너로 가전제품과 조명디자인 분야에서 일했다. 스위스 로잔의 ECAL에서 Product design 석사 과정을 마친 후  사진가 김주영과  밀리언로지즈를 운영하고 있다. 현재 대구대학교 산업디자인 학과 조교수로 재직 중이다.

김주영(1989)은 사진가이다. 동국대학교에서 회화를 전공한 후 동 대학원 석사과정을 마쳤으며, 사진을 매체로 현대 미술에 접근하였다. 2017년 ONE&J+1 Gallery에서 첫 개인전을 가졌고, 건축사진가로 활동하였다. 디자이너 최형문과 밀리언로지즈를 운영하며 건축과 공간 중심의 이미지를 연구한다.

서로 다른 배경을 가진 두 사람은 2013년 겨울, 각자의 프로젝트를 위해 방문했던 아이슬란드에서 만났으며, 2016년 벨기에 인테리어 어워드 수상을 기점으로 다음 해인 2017년 봄 밀리언로지즈로 활동을 시작했다.
